The University of the South Pacific at Laucala Bay, Suva caters for students of many South Pacific Countries from Papua New Guinea in the west to the Cook Is. in the east. Accordingly designing the Student Union 1975 and the Dining Hall 1979 we moved away from an eclectic solution to creating a unique series of South Pacific forms.
The buildings are grouped in a relaxed complex and each form expresses a seperate function. Good cross ventilation to take advantage of the cooling South Pacific trade winds and security are combined, with all buildings protected from the tropical heat and rain by generous curving verandahs. |
