LIFESTYLE MAGAZINE : Minimalism in the home article

 1.            Minimalism is commonly  associated with modernism, austerity, monastic, clinical, Japanese zen gardens etc. For us we practise  an architecture of minimalism as  simplicity with style.  In other words Minimalism can be plush and livable. We have a penchant for restrained opulence not empty passionless living and working environments.

 2.            Minimalism can be for families or professional couples.  It is an attitude, a lifestyle, a way of seeing and living.

 3.            Historically, all artists in spirit (actual or closet) respond to the minimalist design style. Simplicity and paring down of one’s view of the world. Reduction to the purest essence, be it a room, an object  or a  collection of spaces. Perfection and SILENCE. Every home, office and townscape should have a sanctuary devoted to minimalism.

 4.            Affordable ways to achieve a minimalist style could be by following simple lines and shapes, slectection of “a chosen few” materials, textres, colours.  Contrast, proportion & repetition are devices than can be utilised. eg 1 big picture window, a focal object such as a painting, sculpture, a repetitive motif or pattern or texture etc.

We have a preference for the Honest and natural expression of materials and construction.

 5.         Finally, it takes a huge effort to embrace and practise minimalism and the key for us is to capture the essence of minimalism without losing its capacity for an absolutely fabulous livability. Minimalism needs to be romantic.
